About the Club:

The MTU Crows were originally established as the CIT Saints in 2017, when the club began with a focus on developing and fielding a men’s AFL team. In 2021, following the transition from Cork Institute of Technology to Munster Technological University (MTU), the club rebranded as the MTU Crows AFL and proudly introduced a women’s team.

Since 2021, the club has seen remarkable growth and success for both men’s and women’s teams. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic during the 2021/2022 season, the club focused on their development through weekly training sessions and participation in the local Leeside League tournaments. The men’s team competed against UCC Bombers and Leeside Lions, while the women faced off against UCC Crusaders and Cork Vikings.

The 2022/2023 season marked another milestone as both teams trained hard and targeted the Fitzpatrick Cup in Cardiff, Wales. Their women’s team secured a strong second-place finish in their first season at the tournament, while the men placed third, cementing a very strong year for the Crows. In the 2023/2024 season, the teams continued to thrive. At the Fitzpatrick Cup in London, the women’s team triumphed, claiming their first title after defeating UCC Crusaders, while the men narrowly missed out on the title by a single goal against UCC Bombers, but avenged the loss by winning the Cork Colleges Cup at the end of the season in Cork.

The 2024/2025 season will go down in MTU history. With the Fitzpatrick Cup being held in Cork, it was a momentous occasion for the Crows to field a women’s team and two men’s teams, which shows the development and interest of the sport in the University. It was a historic day for the Crows as their Women’s team won back-to-back Fitz Cup titles and the Men’s team won their very first title against their rivals, UCC Bombers – completing the double for the Crows!

At MTU Crows AFL, the club strives to embody the core values of Australian Rules Football – sportsmanship, inclusivity, and community spirit. While the club are committed to winning and achieving excellence on the field, they never lose sight of the importance of fostering a supportive environment where players can grow, have fun, and develop lifelong friendships. Their mission is to promote the joy of AFL and build a strong club culture where success and enjoyment go hand in hand.
