Big news for AFL Ireland as the new management team for the Irish Women’s National team, the Irish Banshees, has been named. Shane Beggan and Seán McGrath will form the dual management role for the next 3 years.
Having played many years in AFL Ireland with the Dublin Demons, starting at the age of 16, Shane has represented Ireland with the Irish Warriors.
He has a degree in Sports & Fitness, Training & Development and has also completed coaching courses, which have helped him gain coaching experience with St. Vincent’s GAA in Dublin.
Speaking on his appointment, Shane outlined his plans for the future while also stating his honour at accepting the challenge that lies ahead.
It is an absolute privilege to accept the role of joint manager of the Irish Banshees national team and to represent my country once again. I look forward to working with the management team and players as we work together to achieve the goals set in front of us.
Shane was also quick to point out how he and the management team are looking to build on past successes of the Irish Banshess.
An open door policy and fair chance with hard work and determination we can achieve great things for our country as we continue to strive to be the best team in Europe and the World.

Meanwhile, Co. Down man, Seán McGrath brings with him a wealth of experience, both in playing and management circles within AFL, at home and in Australia.
Having played in Western Australia with the Rossmoyne Rhinos, and closer to home with the Belfast Refbacks, Seán has over 7 years playing experience. As well as that, he had managed the Belfast Redbacks where he is currently still coaching.
Seán had this to say about his appointment and future Hope’s for the Irish Banshees.
I am honoured to be given the management role of The Banshee’s alongside Shane. I feel that the combination of our experience and backgrounds gives us a great advantage to build and lead our team forward at the pinnacle of the sport.
I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead and look forward to working with Ireland’s elite talent pool of female players.
